I am not a big social media person in my opinion. With very little friends/followers I think I am on the unpopular side. However, I find social media great to receive breaking news around the world and community. Being a sports fan, I can get instant scores and updates on athletes. I do agree that social media can be a great tool to communicate to others. A friend of mine is a professor at Solano Community College and he uses Facebook to provide class information and opportunities for extra credit assignments to his students. He understands that he is dealing with millennials and they are glued to their devices. Social medial is one of his strategies to adapt to his student's learning. My favorite strategy of his is the response of the students helping for fundraisers such as coat drive, canned foods, and donations for the homeless. If I was to come across an inappropriate post made by one of my students outside of the school I would probably approach it like the Assistant Superintendent in the article. I would reach out to my department head or assistant principal about the matter. The parents would also be inform either by me to administration just to better support the student in their learning process. I would not response back to the post because I wouldn't want to offend him or her. My goal is to help with teaching lesson for the student and bring awareness of the pro's and con's of social media.
