Getting started on my next Project-based learning (PBL) assignment for P.E., I reflected back from the Fall classes with Dr. Redmond and Dr. Hawley. There were so much great technology tools I learned such as ScreenCast, Jing, Slideshare, etc. The breakout rooms were also beneficial. I got the opportunity to listened and learned from peers with their expertise, and the trial and error with technology. I still struggle to incorporate new types of technology into my lesson plan, probably because of the lack of knowledge and confidence I have using these tools. However, this Spring semester getting more practice and conversations in our Touro classes, gave me a plan for my next PBL.
I want to move on from the traditional fitness regimen and introduce a project that can be a fitness challenge to students. My goal for this PBL is to have groups of students develop a unique Crossfit WOD (Workout of the Day). Crossfit is a high intensity fitness workout that incorporate functional movements. First, I want to educate students the history and background of Crossfit, the exercises, and the workload intensity. This is where I want to use Quizizz as a study guide. Hopefully, Quizizz will keep the students motivated. Once students develop their project, they have options to present their PBL. I think

I think your idea for a PBL sounds really cool! I think the kids will enjoy exploring PE through project based learning. I also found the break out rooms very helpful, and all of the different learning tools we tried out last semester. Good luck with your new direction on your studies, I need to start thinking about and adjusting mine!

Your PBL unit sounds very interesting. I think your students will be motivated to create their own WOD. I think that most people nowadays are familiar with or practice crossfit themselves and that makes it very relevant. I think that Quizizz would be a great motivational technology tool to use. You might also want to show them some videos of different crossfit exercises to give them some ideas.

I am very much looking forward to hearing about how this PBL units works out with your students! I think the incorporation of technology, as well as, the release of responsibility onto the students will be great motivational tools that will most definitely engage your students. I think your idea of first researching the background of Crossfit, as well as, Marias's idea of showing video examples will be a good hook for the lesson that will help students to understand the reasoning behind why they are learning about Crossfit. I find that when students are empowered with the why of what they are learning about/doing, they take on a deeper level of responsibility, take ownership of their learning, and they are in turn far more motivated to truly learn. There are many free online workout templates that might be an organizational tool for students to use to create and share their own WODs. In addition, they could also create an online WOD video for the rest of your students to participate in at the end of your unit. After students are able to watch their own WOD videos, as well as, the videos of their classmates, they can better determine their areas of strengths, and the areas they can improve on. This can then result in the production of a new WOD video using Crossfit, or possibly their own researched/created type of workout. I can see so many ways in which your idea could have students authentically participate in the action research process. I can't wait to hear about how it goes!

I love that you have a plan for your next PBL- can I join one of your classes? I too have found it difficult to use technology as much as I should, but I also find Touro classes and discussions helpful. Good Luck!

I am excited to see what type workouts your students come up with. How will you divide up your students? How long is the workout? I think it's a great idea to use Quizizz as a study guide. Looking forward to hear about your learning experience with the implementation of innovative technology.

I can't wait to hear about your student's WODs! Will you have the students use the same template? Teach it themselves to the rest of the class? I think using Quizizz will help get them motivated.
