As a P.E. teacher, I like to present the agenda or Do Now on a visual (portable white board) to my students in every class meeting. I am still somewhat in the "old fashion" phase however, my school uses ECHO, which is a website service that is similar to google classroom. Teachers must provide a daily agenda which includes Do Now, unit activity, learning objective and homework. Even though I inputted the agenda on ECHO, I still get students asking me "What are we doing today?" I understand many students are visual learners therefore they need written content to be displayed to become mentally and physically prepare for class.
21st Century Learning involves digital literacy, critical thinking, problem solving with the use of technology Students using technology is now the way they learn to attain knowledge and information by watching videos, listening to music, interacting on social media. Therefore teaching students using transliteracy will help with engagement, participation, and collaboration with peers. One tool I use in P.E. is Kahoot. I found students are happily learning the history and different strategies of Team Handball. Kahoot does bring out the competitiveness but students enjoy the colorful display, danceable theme music, appreciate using their own devices. As more I am learning about technology tools to present in the classroom, I am more willing to incorporate them in P.E. Music has been a great motivator and getting students engaged in the physical activities but I want to find ways to provide more transliteracy to my students. Hopefully by researching and collaborating with peers and colleagues, I can provide students with information fluency across varying platforms, social media and new applications. |
